Donald Trump annonce de nouveaux droits de douane sur les médicaments, les poids lourds et les meubles
The US president announced new tariffs on Thursday on medicines, trucks and furniture produced outside the United States.
US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on drugs, trucks, and furniture produced outside the United States on Thursday. Starting October 1, "we will impose a 100% tariff on any brand-name or patented pharmaceutical product unless a company BUILDS its pharmaceutical factory in America," the Republican billionaire wrote on his Truth Social platform.
In a separate post, he also announced 25% tariffs on "all heavy-duty trucks manufactured in other parts of the world." A move he said would support U.S. truck manufacturers such as "Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Mack Trucks, and others."
The president explained that these tariffs on heavy-duty trucks were motivated by "many reasons, but primarily, national security purposes!" In the spring, the Trump administration launched an investigation to determine whether foreign truck imports posed a threat to "national security."
Customs duties on furniture
The real estate mogul also plans to impose tariffs on many pieces of furniture. "We will impose a 50% tariff on all kitchen furniture, bathroom sinks, and related products," starting October 1, and "a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture," he wrote.
