Donald Trump is going to cost American taxpayers dearly… in golf. A passionate golfer, the US president has already cost $70.8 million since the start of his second term in January 2025, according to a HuffPost investigation. The projection for his entire term is no better and is expected to exceed $300 million.
In November alone, Trump traveled four times to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, near which his golf courses are located. With each trip estimated at $3.4 million, the US president would only need to travel twice in December for his 2025 annual budget to exceed $75 million, which is therefore highly likely.
Trump's flights on Air Force One are very expensive
The reason the bill is so steep is that Donald Trump travels aboard Air Force One, and the presidential plane costs $273,063 per flight hour. To this must be added the security costs, including armed patrols and Coast Guard vessels. In total, Trump reportedly spent 12% of his time as president playing golf, something he had promised not to do before his first election. "I just want to stay in the White House and work like a maniac," he declared at the time. He broke his promise within the first few days of his presidency.
