Dua Lipa : pourquoi la chanteuse britannique réclame-t-elle 15 millions de dollars à Samsung ?
Dua Lipa is suing the South Korean electronics giant Samsung. The singer is seeking $15 million (€12.71 million) in damages. Here's why.
The British star was not at all pleased. Dua Lipa is accusing the South Korean company Samsung of using her image on television screen packaging.
According to Variety, the singer is suing the South Korean company in a California court. In her complaint filed Friday, Dua Lipa explains that she discovered a photo of herself in June 2025 was being used on television boxes sold in the United States. She claims she immediately asked Samsung to stop using the photo, which she alleges was taken in 2024 at the Austin City Limits festival.
"Ms. Lipa's face was used ostentatiously in a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product, without her knowledge, without compensation, and without her having any right of review, control, or influence," argue her lawyers, who claim that the star "never gave her permission for such use and would never have done so."
Dua Lipa's legal team also states that the group rejected her request to cease and desist and that the brand's response was "contemptuous and dismissive." They accuse Samsung of subsequently continuing to profit significantly from the image, citing, to support their claims, consumers who say they were tempted to buy the television in question because of Dua Lipa's presence on the box.
The lawsuit alleges copyright infringement, violations of California's publicity law, and violations of the Lanham Act, a federal trademark law in the United States. The star is seeking at least $15 million in damages.
