Affaire Epstein : Six noms ont été caviardés du dossier sans explication par le ministère américain de la Justice

More than three million new pages of the Epstein file have recently been leaked, some of which are partially redacted. Several American elected officials have denounced the concealment of the names of six men, omitted without explanation by the U.S. Department of Justice from the sex offender's case.

Among the lawmakers who reported the removal of these identities are the two co-authors of the Epstein transparency law, both members of the House of Representatives: Republican Thomas Massie and Democrat Ro Khanna. "What bothered me is that the names of at least six men have been redacted, even though they are likely implicated because of their inclusion in these documents," Thomas Massie told reporters yesterday outside the Justice Department.

"There are six men, some with their photos, whose names have been redacted, without any explanation as to why," Ro Khanna said.

No further legal action is possible.

The two parliamentarians, who were able to consult the unredacted documents, refused to reveal the identity of these six men, but nevertheless indicated that one of them was "quite high up in a foreign government", mentioning "a rather eminent personality" among the other five.

The law allows for redactions under strict conditions, primarily to protect the privacy of victims. However, it expressly prohibits withholding documents on the grounds of potential harm to anyone—"government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary"—or due to their "politically sensitive nature." "We must give the Ministry of Justice a chance to revise its work and correct its mistakes," stated Thomas Massie.

The mass of new documents does not contain any evidence that could lead to further charges, the Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche, warned from the outset on January 30. But although the mere mention of a person's name in the file does not imply any wrongdoing on their part, many prominent figures fear the repercussions of the revelations on their past ties to the sex offender.
