Epstein a affirmé dans un email que Trump "savait à propos des filles"

American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein claimed that Donald Trump "knew about the girls" in a 2019 email attributed to the New York financier who died in prison that same year, and made public Wednesday by Democratic lawmakers.

The White House, for its part, accused the opposition of wanting to "fabricate a false narrative to smear President Trump."

"Trump said he wanted me to renounce" my membership at Mar-a-Lago, the US president's Florida residence, Jeffrey Epstein claims in an email sent to journalist and author Michael Wolff. He clarifies that he was never a member of Mar-a-Lago and adds: "Of course, he knew about the girls, as he asked Ghislaine to stop."

Ghislaine Maxwell, accomplice and former partner of Jeffrey Epstein, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sexual exploitation.

Democratic members of the influential House Oversight Committee also released on X another email, dated 2011, in which Jeffrey Epstein allegedly writes to Ghislaine Maxwell that Donald Trump "spent several hours" with a victim of the financier at the latter's home.

- Virginia Giuffre -

In a statement obtained by AFP, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt identified the victim as Virginia Giuffre, who took her own life in April at the age of 41 and whose posthumous memoirs recount assaults she suffered while under the control of Jeffrey Epstein.

Virginia Giuffre "has repeatedly said that President Trump did nothing wrong and that he 'could not have been more friendly' in the limited interactions they had," the spokeswoman points out.

Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in his cell in 2019, a suicide according to authorities, before his trial for sex crimes.

The American president has always denied having any knowledge of the criminal behavior of the man with whom he was close before falling out in the 2000s.

These emails, obtained through the financier's legatees, "raise serious questions about Donald Trump and what he knew about Epstein's horrific crimes," say the Democratic lawmakers behind their release.

The powerful commission of which they are members is investigating how the federal government conducted the investigations and prosecutions against Jeffrey Epstein.

Their Republican counterparts on X condemned the publication of the emails on Wednesday, accusing the opposition of wanting to "generate clicks" with arbitrarily chosen documents.

They also announced the publication of "20,000 additional pages of documents" received from Jeffrey Epstein's heirs.

- Petition -

The case has inflamed the United States since the Trump administration announced in early July that it had discovered no new evidence justifying the release of additional documents in this case.

His death has fueled countless conspiracy theories, according to which he was assassinated to prevent him from implicating prominent figures.

After promising his supporters explosive revelations during his presidential campaign, Donald Trump is now trying to extinguish the controversy, which he has repeatedly described as a "hoax" set up by the opposition.

A letter with lewd undertones, attributed to the Republican billionaire and addressed to Jeffrey Epstein for his birthday in 2003, was made public in early September by the same Democratic lawmakers. The future US president's signature appears at the bottom of the note, replacing the outline of a woman's pubic area.

The White House had denied that Donald Trump was the author.

In Congress, the case could see new developments in the coming days. A petition from elected officials is expected to reach the required number of signatures to force a vote in the House on a bill aimed at compelling the Trump administration to release the files it possesses on Jeffrey Epstein.

    Big up Trump ! 💪💪💪
