États-Unis : Son parachute ne s’ouvre pas, un jeune homme de 25 ans survit après une chute de plus de 3.000 m

A 25-year-old man survived a fall of more than 3,000 m during a parachute jump in the United States in mid-September.

Surviving a fall of several thousand meters: that doesn't happen every day. In mid-September, a 25-year-old man was "only" seriously injured after an accident during a parachute jump, reports the New York Post.

On September 17, the young man from the United Kingdom was performing a tandem parachute jump with an instructor for his birthday. The duo jumped from an airplane at an altitude of over 3,350 meters above the Nevada desert (USA). However, during their fall, neither the main parachute nor the reserve parachute opened.

Several serious fractures

After spinning in the air, the two men crashed to the ground at speeds between 55 and 70 km/h. They were immediately treated and airlifted to a Los Angeles hospital. As of the end of September, the 54-year-old instructor was still in critical condition.

The young man, however, is doing better. The fall caused a fractured pelvis, broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a lacerated kidney. However, by the end of September, he was conscious and beginning to walk again despite the discovery of new internal fractures in his body, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

His partner launched an online fundraiser to fund his medical care and repatriation to the United Kingdom. As of Wednesday, $24,000 had already been raised. Meanwhile, a joint investigation by the police and the United States Parachute Association (USPA) has been launched to shed light on the circumstances of the accident.
