France: dix hommes inculpés dans une enquête pour viol d'un enfant de cinq ans
Ten men aged 29 to 50 have been charged in Lille in northern France in connection with a case of child sexual abuse committed under chemical submission against a five-year-old child, the prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.
An investigation was opened on February 15, 2025, following a report concerning a "chemsex" party held the previous day in Lille. Chemsex is characterized by the use of drugs during sexual intercourse to increase desire, pleasure, and sensations, exposing participants to numerous health risks.
According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, a five-year-old child "put in contact with adult males by his own father" allegedly suffered "aggravated sexual violence through the use of chemical substances" during that evening.
On February 22, 2025, the Lille prosecutor's office referred the case to an investigating judge for events that occurred in Lille between November 2024 and February 14, 2025, including "rape and sexual assault with administration of a substance to the victim, without her knowledge, to alter her judgment or control of her actions."
The investigation is also being conducted for "rape and sexual assault with torture or acts of barbarity" and "administering to a minor under 15 years of age, without their knowledge, a substance likely to alter their judgment or control of their actions in order to commit rape or sexual assault".
The maximum penalty is life imprisonment for the crime of rape with acts of torture or barbarity, the Lille prosecutor's office stated.
The investigation "confirmed the facts" and led to the indictment of ten men, nine of whom were placed in pretrial detention. "One of the main defendants took his own life on June 21, 2025" while in pretrial detention.
The child "has been placed in the care of his mother, from whom the father was separated before the events. He is receiving specific support," the prosecutor's office stated.
This case resonates particularly strongly in France in the wake of the Pélicot affair, which received widespread public attention. Dominique Pélicot was sentenced in 2024 to 20 years in prison for drugging his wife Gisèle in order to rape her and then hand her over to dozens of strangers in their home in Mazan (southeast France) between 2011 and 2020.
