France : les préfets appelés à mobiliser les forces de l'ordre pour les quarts et demi-finales de la CAN 2025
Laurent Nuñez called on the prefects to mobilize law enforcement in order to "prevent any recurrence of public disorder" on Friday and Saturday during the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) and on Wednesday for the semi-finals.
In a telegram dated Thursday and seen by AFP, the Interior Minister stressed that Algeria's victory in the round of 16 last Tuesday was met in France by gatherings which "may have generated excesses".
On Friday, Morocco will face Cameroon in the quarter-finals in Rabat and on Saturday, Algeria will play Nigeria in Marrakech.
The other quarter-final matches will pit Senegal against Mali on Friday in Tangier, and Egypt against Ivory Coast on Saturday in Agadir.
Laurent Nuñez is asking the prefects, in particular, to put in place "public road measures adapted to the local circumstances of each of (their) territories, in line with the risk of disturbances that (their) services will have previously reported".
"Generally speaking," he adds, "I ask you to mobilize all the administrative police powers at your disposal to deal with public order disturbances during these matches, in particular those allowing you to combat the misuse of pyrotechnics and fireworks mortars (prefectural decrees prohibiting their sale and circulation)."
