France: L'eurodéputée Rima Hassan en garde à vue pour "apologie du terrorisme"
"She was summoned under the custody regime, which is mind-boggling given that she has always attended all her summonses," a source within La France insoumise told AFP.
According to Le Parisien, Rima Hassan was taken into custody as part of an investigation into a tweet that allegedly referred to Kōzō Okamoto, one of the perpetrators of an attack on Tel Aviv airport in 1972.
This message has since been deleted, according to the newspaper.
"This is a new milestone reached in the judicial harassment aimed at silencing voices that defend the rights of the Palestinian people," said Rima Hassan's entourage.
At the end of March, National Rally MP Matthias Renault announced that he had reported to the Paris public prosecutor a message from the MEP that referred to Kōzō Okamoto, a former member of the Japanese Red Army.
Rima Hassan, a 33-year-old French-Palestinian lawyer, has been the target of a judicial investigation in France since the end of 2023 for glorifying terrorism, after making statements considered to be a sign of support for the Islamist movement Hamas, in the wake of the October 7 attack perpetrated by the latter.
