Gims séparé de sa compagne Demdem ? Elle balance "lorsqu'un homme ne veut pas changer..."

Specifically, the military will provide security for synagogues and Jewish schools. The decision was made following the attack a week ago on the Liège synagogue and similar incidents in the Netherlands and Norway.

Anti-Semitic attacks

“In a context of rising anti-Semitism, the attack at the Liège Synagogue has served as a stark reminder that the threat to the Jewish community in Belgium is very real. Ensuring the safety of our citizens is the role of the State in all its aspects and beyond any other political considerations. The deployment of military personnel to reinforce security around Jewish sites will provide direct support to the police forces,” explained Minister Quintin in a statement.

Following the Liège attack, several political leaders called for the deployment of soldiers to ensure the security of places frequented by the Jewish community. The president of the MR party, Georges-Louis Bouchez, reiterated this call in Parliament on Thursday, and on Monday, the mayor of Antwerp, Els Van Doesburg (N-VA), also expressed her impatience. The request was also supported by the Coordinating Committee of Jewish Organizations in Belgium (CCOJB).

Showdown with the military

For several weeks, a tug-of-war has pitted the CD&V and the MR against each other on this issue: the Christian Democrats do not reject the measure per se, but have linked it to Minister Annelies Verlinden's plan to alleviate prison overcrowding, some aspects of which are met with resistance from the MR. The problem is far from resolved, according to reliable sources. The decision announced by the two ministers is based on Article 111 of the Integrated Police Act, which authorizes the Commissioner General of the Federal Police to call upon the Ministry of Defense to support police missions. "A form of requisition," commented another source.

This is not the first time the police have relied on the army to secure sites linked to the Jewish community. During Operation “Vigilant Guardian,” launched in 2015 in response to the terrorist threat in Belgium, soldiers had already carried out such a mission.
