Record historique du prix de l’or : Le métal jaune franchit pour la première fois le seuil des 5 000 dollars l’once
According to the BBC, the price of gold has reached a historic milestone, surpassing $5,000 an ounce (approximately 2,000,767 CFA francs) for the first time. This exceptional performance extends an upward trend that began several months ago, with the precious metal having risen by more than 60% since the start of 2025.
This surge is occurring within an international context marked by increasing geopolitical and financial instability. Diplomatic tensions between the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), particularly regarding Greenland, have reignited investor concerns, already rattled by an uncertain global climate.
Markets also reacted to the protectionist direction of US trade policy. US President Donald Trump recently threatened to impose a 100% tariff on Canadian imports if Ottawa were to conclude a trade agreement with China, thus heightening fears of a further escalation of trade tensions.
In this context, gold confirms its status as a safe-haven asset, as do other precious metals. Silver, too, reached a historic high, surpassing $100 an ounce, extending a spectacular rise of nearly 150% recorded last year.
The surge in prices is also supported by several structural factors, including persistent inflation, the weakness of the US dollar, sustained purchases by central banks around the world, and expectations of a further cut in the US Federal Reserve's policy rates during the year.
Furthermore, the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as the diplomatic tensions related to the seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by Washington, contribute to strengthening the appeal of gold as a protective asset against global risks.
