Immigration : les pays européens vont se répartir au moins 30.000 migrants d'ici à Noël
At least 30,000 asylum seekers will be welcomed in several European Union countries by Christmas, as provided for in a text signed last year.
The new European solidarity mechanism is being tested. No fewer than 30,000 migrants are expected to be welcomed into the 27 countries of the European Union by Christmas.
Indeed, the decision taken as part of the vast migration plan signed in 2024, should help relieve the burden on countries along migratory routes, such as Greece and Italy, by fairly relocating 30,000 asylum seekers per year.
Otherwise, the countries will pay a fine of 20,000 euros per migrant who could not be accepted, to the countries in greatest difficulty.
"The whole point of this new system is to look at the figures objectively, without engaging in populist demagogy," centrist MEP Fabienne Keller, who supports the reform, explained to AFP.
Criteria to take into account
Initially, the European Commission will have to determine which countries are defined as being under "migratory pressure", based on various criteria such as the number of irregular arrivals recorded and the size of the country, by October 15.
