Nestlé and Lactalis have recalled thousands of cans of their products due to the suspected presence of cereulide, a dangerous toxin. Here is the list of affected products in France.

This infant formula must absolutely not be consumed. A massive recall of these tins of powdered milk has been launched. Among those initiating the recall are the Swiss company Nestlé and the French company Lactalis, which sell it under various brands worldwide. The reason? The suspected presence of cereulide.

Cereulide is a toxic compound produced under certain conditions by a family of bacteria, Bacillus cereus. These bacteria are widespread in the environment—soil, water, plants—and therefore in many foods. Some of these bacteria, when heated to a temperature insufficient to eliminate them, can cause diarrhea and vomiting, sometimes with serious complications.

The Bordeaux prosecutor's office announced on Thursday the opening of a criminal investigation into the causes of death of an infant who consumed infant milk of the Guigoz brand (Nestlé).

In France, several thousand batches have been recalled in recent days. While the official government website, Rappel Conso, lists six product sheets, many more products are being recalled because different packaging sizes are affected.
