Iran: hommage national à Ali Khamenei, tué il y a 40 jours
His son Mojtaba, who succeeded him in early March, has not made any public appearances since. His presence on Thursday seems unlikely at this stage, as he was wounded in a strike, according to Iranian officials.
According to images from state television, thousands of people, holding portraits of the deceased and waving flags of the Islamic Republic, are participating in rallies organized across the country.
They are taking place in particular in Urmia (northwest), Gorgan (northeast) but also in Tehran, where the bombings have ceased since the entry into force of a fragile ceasefire on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.
The national tribute began at 09:40 (06:10 GMT). On February 28, at precisely this time, airstrikes killed Ali Khamenei at his residence in Tehran, along with dozens of high-ranking officers and officials.
This attack marked the beginning of a conflict that subsequently engulfed the entire Middle East, with Iran retaliating against Israel and American interests in the Gulf.
Due to the war, a national funeral for Ali Khamenei, which had initially been announced, could not ultimately be organized.
