At 82, the former US president is still recovering from Mohs surgery, a technique that involves removing cancerous tissue layer by layer until the diseased cells are completely eliminated. The exact date of the procedure remains unknown, but photos taken in late August in Greenville, Delaware, already showed a large incision visible on his skull.

This surgery is not a first for the former White House resident. In February 2023, while he was still in office, a cancerous lesion was already removed from his chest during a routine medical examination. The biopsy revealed basal cell carcinoma, one of the most common forms of skin cancer. "All cancerous tissue was successfully removed" and "no further treatment is necessary," wrote Dr. Kevin O'Connor, Biden's personal physician, in an official memo at the time.

"Aggressive" prostate cancer

However, medical concerns are mounting for Joe Biden. Last May, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of prostate cancer with "bone metastases." This cancer is a Gleason score 9, which rates the aggressiveness of prostate cancers on a scale of up to 10. "Although this is a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-dependent, allowing for effective treatment," the statement reads.

For her part, his wife, Jill Biden, has not been spared either. The former first lady also had two cancerous lesions removed in 2023, one above her eye and the other on her chest.
