La valse des gouvernements français en chiffres: 130 ministres depuis 2022
Since the re-election of President Emmanuel Macron in 2022, 130 figures have succeeded each other in the French government, already breaking, a year and a half before the next presidential election, the absolute record for ministers appointed during a presidential mandate under the Fifth Republic, according to an AFP database.
With 17 new faces appearing on Sunday in the list of the Lecornu II government (20 including those of the Lecornu I government), the governments of the second Macron five-year term have beaten, in less than three and a half years, the previous record of 117 ministers, established in twice as much time under the second seven-year term of François Mitterrand (1988-1995).
These figures take into account all members of the government, whether they are Prime Ministers, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Secretaries of State, etc.
But even counting only full-time ministers, the governments of Macron's second five-year term outperform those of Mitterrand's second seven-year term (65 ministers, compared to 64). Again, in half the time.
To date, only Sébastien Lecornu, the current tenant of Matignon, has participated in various capacities in all the governments of this five-year term.
Reappointed to the Justice and Foreign Affairs ministries respectively on Sunday, Gérald Darmanin and Jean-Noël Barrot are rare elements of stability. But even the most loyal can throw in the towel, like Agnès Pannier-Runacher, who has served in every government since 2018 and did not want to be reappointed to the Ecological Transition ministries.
Not counting the new heads of the Lecornu government, 66 ministers remained in office for less than a year under Macron's second five-year term, 24 of whom lasted less than three months. Nine of them, reappointed on Sunday, will have the opportunity to improve their record.
Hoping not to fall back into the anonymity of the dozens of ephemeral ministers who have served in successive governments. Unless we count on a new opportunity, like Nicolas Forissier, in Foreign Trade, who is returning to the government after a 21-year absence.
