L'Arabie saoudite met en garde l'Iran contre "toute erreur d'appréciation"
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman on Saturday called on Iran to exercise "wisdom" and warned against "any miscalculation" as his country is targeted by Tehran's drones and missiles.
Saudi Arabia is the world's leading oil exporter. Most of its oil fields and infrastructure are located along its eastern coast on the Gulf, opposite Iran.
"We stressed that such actions undermine regional security and stability and expressed hope that the Iranian side would show wisdom and avoid any misjudgment," Prince Khaled bin Salman wrote on X after a meeting with Pakistani army chief Asim Munir.
Earlier on Saturday, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that it had destroyed a ballistic missile that was heading towards Prince Sultan's airbase, which houses American military personnel.
The official Saudi press agency later reported another missile attack against the same base, stating that it too had been thwarted, citing a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense.
The agency also reported at least 17 drone attacks targeting the Shaybah oil field, near the UAE border. The drones were "intercepted and destroyed," it said.
In a separate incident, two drones were intercepted east of Riyadh, according to the Ministry of Defense.
On Wednesday, Riyadh claimed to have intercepted a drone targeting a major refinery, that of Ras Tanura (east), which had already been targeted on Monday.
A source close to the Saudi government warned AFP on Monday that a "coordinated" Iranian attack on the country's oil infrastructure could trigger a military response from Riyadh against "Iranian oil facilities".
After years of hostility, Shiite-majority Iran and Sunni-majority Saudi Arabia resumed relations in 2023, following a surprise agreement brokered by China.
