The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Friday denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to order the army to expand its control over the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire agreement slated for October 2025. "In a flagrant violation of all agreements, as is his wont, Netanyahu announced the expansion of control to 70% of the Gaza Strip, even as the killings and famine continue," accused spokesman Bassem Naim. Under the terms of the fragile ceasefire, Israeli forces were supposed to withdraw behind a "yellow line," the name given to the demarcation line between the area controlled by Hamas and that held by the Israeli army, which gave the latter control of just over 50% of the small territory.
