Kuwait's Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday that four people arrested in early May while attempting to enter the country by sea had "confessed" to belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The four men, two naval colonels, a captain and a lieutenant commander, confessed to having been tasked by the ideological army of the Islamic Republic of Iran "to infiltrate Bubiyan Island", the Interior Ministry said in a statement published by the national news agency Kuna.

They attempted to reach this island, the largest in Kuwait, close to the Iranian coast, "on Friday, May 1st, aboard a fishing boat specially chartered to carry out hostile actions against Kuwait," the statement said.

During exchanges of fire with Kuwaiti armed forces stationed on the island, a Kuwaiti soldier "was wounded" and two members of the Revolutionary Guard group managed to "escape", according to the same source.

On May 3, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense indicated that it had apprehended four people attempting to reach Kuwait by sea.

In mid-April, 24 people were arrested in Kuwait for financing "terrorist" entities, according to the Interior Ministry of this Gulf monarchy, with a security source specifying that five former parliamentarians were among those implicated.

In March, Kuwait arrested six people suspected of links with Lebanese Hezbollah, as part of an investigation into "assassination" plots in the country.

The pro-Iranian Islamist movement has already denied several times any presence in Kuwait.

Since Iran targeted the US-allied Gulf petro-monarchies in retaliation for the Israeli-American attack launched on February 28, the authorities of these states have increased operations against individuals or organizations suspected of being linked to or supporting the Islamic Republic.
