The severed hands of a woman were found on the side of the A45 motorway in Germany.
It was a motorist who made the grim discovery on Monday night near Olpe.
A few hours later, 110 km away, a baby was found abandoned in its stroller in front of the Kröffelbach monastery.
The child is in good health. He has been taken into care by the emergency services.
Thanks to fingerprints taken from the hands, the victim was identified: she was a young woman who lived in a reception center for asylum seekers in Bonn.
According to initial findings of the investigation, it appears to be the child's mother.
The investigation continues in order to find the mother and her partner, who is also the father of the baby.
