Iran confirmed on Sunday the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, killed in the US-Israeli operation launched the previous day against the country.
Here are the main reactions.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard condemned "the criminal and terrorist acts committed by the evil governments of the United States and the Zionist regime," adding: "the vengeful hand of the Iranian nation will not let go until it has inflicted upon the murderers of the Imam of the Ummah a severe and decisive punishment that they will regret."
Iranian state television announced a 40-day mourning period and seven public holidays. "With the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader, his path and mission will neither be lost nor forgotten; on the contrary, they will be pursued with greater vigor and zeal," a presenter declared.
"Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead. It is only justice for the Iranians, but also for all the great Americans, and people in many countries around the world, who were killed or maimed by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS," wrote US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social network.
"Justice has been served, and the axis of evil has suffered a crushing defeat (...) We will continue to act firmly to protect the State of Israel," said Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
"With his death, the Islamic Republic has effectively come to an end and will soon be consigned to the dustbin of history," rejoiced Reza Pahlavi, son of the late Shah of Iran, on X.
"To the armed forces, security forces, and police: any attempt to support a collapsing regime is doomed to failure," he added.
The influential Shiite leader Moqtada al-Sadr announced three days of mourning in Iraq. "It is with deep sadness and immense sorrow that we extend our condolences to the entire Islamic world for the martyrdom of the leader of the Islamic Revolution," he wrote on X.
In Baghdad, protesters attempted to storm the area housing the US embassy, but were prevented from doing so by the police.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reacted to the death of Iran's supreme leader "not being mourned."
"Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was responsible for the regime's nuclear and ballistic missile program, for supporting armed groups, and for brutal acts of violence and intimidation committed against his own people," Albanese told reporters.
