L'Iran et la Russie vont mener des exercices dans la mer d'Oman
Tehran and its Russian ally will conduct military maneuvers off the coast of Iran on Thursday, following a new round of talks this week between the Islamic Republic and the United States, the Isna news agency announced on Wednesday.
This "joint naval exercise" will take place in the Sea of Oman and in the northern Indian Ocean, Isna reported, citing Rear Admiral Hassan Maghsoudloo.
"The objective is to strengthen maritime security (in this area) as well as relations between the navies of the two countries," the agency added, without specifying the duration of this exercise.
This comes as other maneuvers began on Monday under the aegis of the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's ideological army, in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials have repeatedly threatened to block this strait, particularly during times of tension with the United States, but this threat has never been carried out.
A key passage for the global transport of oil and liquefied natural gas, it has been the scene of several incidents in the past and has returned to the spotlight due to tensions between Iran and the United States.
It was partially closed for a few hours on Tuesday for "security" reasons, during ongoing military exercises, according to Iranian state television.
For its part, the United States has deployed a large naval force in the Gulf, raising the threat of military intervention against Iran if the two enemy countries fail to reach an agreement, particularly on the Iranian nuclear program.
They resumed dialogue in early February, under the mediation of the Sultanate of Oman, for the first time since the 12-day war launched in June 2025 by Israel and in which the United States had joined.
