Macron apparaît avec un œil injecté de sang, «l'œil du tigre»
The French president had a look on his face that did not go unnoticed on Thursday. He joked about it, in an attempt to reassure the public.
The buzz was guaranteed, especially since Emmanuel Macron himself mentioned it, smiling. During his New Year's address to the Armed Forces this Thursday at the Istres air base (Bouches-du-Rhône), the French president appeared with one eye that seemed damaged and bloodshot.
"Please excuse the unsightly appearance of my eye, it's nothing serious. Just see it as an unintentional reference to the eye of the tiger at the start of the year. For those who get the reference, it's a sign of determination," he said, with a sly smile.

On social media, comments flew thick and fast, some wondering what to make of this "eye of the tiger" – from Clemenceau to Rocky –, others piling up jokes, some more amusing than others, about the origin of this shifty eye.
Suspicious? "Le Parisien" wanted to get to the bottom of it and contacted the Élysée Palace, which relayed the reassuring diagnosis from its chief physician: "It is simply a small blood vessel in the eye that has bled. It is totally benign."
Benign but spectacular enough to get people talking, and it's certainly not over yet.
