Mexique : Un artiste qui chantait les louanges des barons de la drogue, abattu sur un parking
In Mexico, it's clearly a risky business to compose songs glorifying drug traffickers. Ernesto Barajas, a famous Mexican artist who performs in the musical genre known as "narcocorrido," was gunned down Tuesday evening in a parking lot in the city of Zapopan, in the western state of Jalisco. He belonged to the band Enigma Norteno.
According to police, two men approached Barajas on a motorcycle and opened fire on him, killing him instantly. Another man died in the attack and a woman was wounded in the leg.
He had received threats from the CJNG
Mexican media reported that the singer had previously received threats from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). His band had since dedicated a song to the leader of this criminal organization, Nemesio Oseguera.
Enigma Norteno is also known for releasing a track called "Los Chapitos," named after the sons of notorious drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, currently serving a life sentence in the US.
Last May, five members of the Fugitivo group, known for its narcocorrido operations, were also murdered by suspected drug traffickers in the state of Tamaulipas.
