A uniformed soldier surrounded by four men in the US Senate. A surreal scene unfolded in Washington on Wednesday, March 4th, when Brian McGinnis, a former US Marine, was forcibly removed from a Senate committee hearing while expressing his opposition to the war in Iran.
Republican Senator Tim Sheehy, himself a former member of the special forces, was filmed assisting Capitol police in removing the protester from the room.
A former Green Party candidate described as a "disturbed protester"
The protester has been identified by US authorities as Brian McGinnis, from North Carolina. It was in this state that he also ran as a Green Party candidate.
The protester asserted on February 28 in a video posted on his X account "that the whole world knows that (the United States) represents Zionist principles and that we are becoming a Zionist country which believes that Israel has the right to extend its borders to the countries that surround it."
A few hours before the altercation, he stated in another post that he wanted to ask the Senate "why they are sending our men and women into danger." For his part, Republican Senator Tim Sheehy condemned the man's presence, saying he came to the Capitol "looking for a confrontation, and he got one."
