PlayStation, Pepsi et d'autres augmentent leurs prix à cause des droits de douane américains

Sony announced Wednesday that it is raising the prices of its PlayStation consoles by $50 in the United States due to the "challenging economic environment," a reference to U.S. tariffs that are also affecting a wide range of industries, from video games to beverages.

"Like many international companies, we continue to operate in a challenging economic environment," the Japanese entertainment giant said in a blog post.

“As a result, we have made the difficult decision to increase the suggested retail price of PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States, effective August 21,” continued Isabelle Tomatis, a vice president of the group.

The suggested retail price for the PlayStation 5 in the US increases to $550, and that of the PlayStation 5 Pro to $750.

Sony announced in mid-April a price increase for several models of its PS5 in certain markets.

In May, the group warned that it was considering adjustments in the United States as well, and that American tariffs could cost it around 100 billion yen ($680 million) over a year.

American snack giant PepsiCo could increase the price of its soft drinks by around 10% to "mitigate the effects of customs duties," particularly on aluminum, an essential material for the manufacture of cans, according to the trade magazine Beverage Digest.

Citing a "complex and dynamic customs landscape," Monster Beverages, a maker of energy drinks, could also raise the price of its drinks both in the United States and internationally, its boss, Hilton Schlosberg, said in early August.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order earlier this month, making additional tariffs on the US's 90 major trading partners effective from August 7.

Customs duties now range from a minimum of 10% on most products entering the United States to as high as 50%.

Japanese products are affected by a minimum of 15%, in addition to the rates applied before Donald Trump's return to the White House.

The American cosmetics group Estée Lauder recently estimated the impact of the new customs duties at around $100 million for the 2026 financial year and is considering adjusting its prices to offset this additional cost.
