Russie: une jeune russe détenue pour avoir interprété des chansons de musiciens anti-Kremlin
A young Russian woman was detained Thursday for performing anti-Kremlin musicians' songs in the street in St. Petersburg, drawing a crowd of passersby, images of which went viral online.
In these videos, which were shared on social media, dozens of people sing and dance to the sound of a group of street musicians performing songs by Monetotchka, Noize MC and Pornofilmy, known for their opposition to the war in Ukraine.
On Thursday, the press service of the courts of St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city, announced that the singer behind this rare public display of dissent had been detained for 13 days for "disturbing public order."
Diana Loginova, 18, is accused of "organizing a simultaneous public gathering of at least 70 people" near a metro station, according to Russian media.
According to several Russian media outlets, the young woman is also the subject of an investigation for "discrediting the army," an accusation regularly used for three years by the authorities to repress dissidents.
This second charge would carry a heavier sentence.
Since the start of the assault on Ukraine in February 2022, Russian authorities have adopted a raft of legislation to silence critical voices, including for simple statements made in private or messages on social media.
Thousands of people have been harassed, tried or threatened on such charges, and hundreds have been sentenced to prison, often to long terms.
Almost all Russian opposition figures are now in prison or in exile abroad.
