Suicide d’une jeune policière à Charleroi: une lettre troublante refait surface

The suicide of Elisa, a young police officer working in Charleroi, still raises many questions.

About a month ago, this 30-year-old woman took her own life with her service weapon. Today, several questions remain about the reasons for her act of despair. According to the Charleroi prosecutor's office, her death was linked to a personal and private matter, but her parents believe that the harassment she allegedly suffered at work should also be taken into account.

She had filed a complaint for sexual harassment and rape against an officer in the Charleroi area. According to her mother, she had been a victim since 2021, but had not spoken about it to anyone, not even her relatives.

Rape case dismissed

The officer in question was reportedly removed from his post and Elisa hospitalized for “post-traumatic stress and depression”. She eventually returned to work last August, but still suffered from the same anxieties, fears, and depression in the workplace.

As evidenced by a letter written with her mother's help two weeks before her death, addressed to her area supervisor, she particularly feared the return of her colleague, according to our colleagues at RTL. “My first fear is having to work under his command. My second is that he might be seeking revenge. It would also be very difficult for me to run into him alone in the corridors. I would also like to be informed of the date of his return to work,” she wrote.

An investigation into workplace harassment is currently being conducted by the labor inspectorate. Regarding the alleged rape, the case has been dismissed.
