Les Etats-Unis veulent la fin de la guerre en Ukraine d'ici juin, selon Zelensky
Washington wants to see the end of the war in Ukraine by June, and has invited the Russian and Ukrainian delegations to further talks next week in the United States, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced.
The Americans want the war, which will soon enter its fifth year, to end "by the beginning of summer, in June," according to remarks by Mr. Zelensky, which were under embargo until Saturday.
"The United States has invited both Russian and Ukrainian negotiating teams for the first time, probably to Miami, in a week," said Mr. Zelensky. He was reporting on the discussions held Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi between Moscow and Kyiv, as well as the Americans.
Ukraine has agreed to this new meeting, he said.
The Ukrainian president reiterated that his country would not accept agreements concluded between the United States and Russia without the involvement of Kyiv, particularly on sensitive territorial issues.
Russia, which occupies some 20% of Ukraine, wants to fully control the eastern Donbas region, and demands the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the parts of this territory they still control, a demand unacceptable to Kyiv.
"Ukraine will not support any agreements concerning it without being involved" in the discussions, Mr. Zelensky insisted.
"Any agreement concerning Ukraine cannot conflict with the Ukrainian Constitution and laws," he reiterated.
The two warring parties also failed to reach an agreement on the issue of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (south), occupied by Moscow since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
