Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called Monday for a "total travel ban" targeting several countries accused of "allowing dangerous migrants to flow into the United States." The announcement came just after a meeting with President Trump, the New York Post reports.
On X, the secretary stated that she recommends this measure against nations that "flood our country with killers, parasites, and profiteers," arguing that the United States was not built to "allow foreign invaders to massacre our heroes" or "plunder our taxes."
A very tense atmosphere
This stance comes in an already very tense climate following last week's attack in Washington, where a 29-year-old Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is accused of killing a National Guard soldier.
Since this tragedy, the Trump administration has suspended all asylum decisions and is reviewing 720,000 green card holders from 19 countries deemed "at risk" and is temporarily blocking visas for Afghan passports.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who arrived legally in 2021 via Operation Allies Welcome and was recently granted asylum, was described by Noem as the prime example of the "unverified admissions" allowed in under the Biden administration.
