"Yes, that's true. I told him not to do that, and he won't do it again," the US president said in the Oval Office, in response to a reporter's question, alongside Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
"You know, we're independent. We get along very well. It's coordinated, but occasionally he does something, and if I don't like it... then we don't do it anymore," the Republican leader continued.
He had confirmed the previous day on his Truth Social platform that Israel had struck the South Pars gas field but asserted that the United States "knew nothing" about the attack, which led to Iranian retaliation against the Qatari installation of Ras Laffan.
This statement contradicts previous indications from the White House, which stated that the Americans were well aware of this Israeli project but had not participated.
Donald Trump also threatened on Wednesday to destroy the huge Iranian gas field in question if Tehran attacked the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas production site in Qatar again.
Iran responded that it would show "no restraint" if its energy infrastructure were attacked again.
These Israeli and Iranian strikes have caused extreme nervousness in the energy markets, which have already been tense since the start of the Israeli-American offensive on February 28.
They also raised again the question of coordination between the United States and Israel, whether in terms of objectives pursued or military strategy.
