Trump évacué après des tirs au dîner des correspondants de la Maison Blanche
US President Donald Trump was evacuated Saturday night from the White House Correspondents' Dinner after shots were heard and a suspected gunman was arrested, according to security officials and AFP journalists.
Several hundred people attended this annual event in a large Washington hotel.
The entire room was evacuated, AFP journalists observed, while members of the US government, from Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were apparently evacuated.
There was great confusion about the precise circumstances of the incident which occurred during the White House Correspondents' Dinner in the presence, for the first time as president, of Donald Trump.
One of the participants, Dr. Oz, indicated that "shots were fired," it was heard at the scene.
Police officers surrounded the area and helicopters were flying overhead in the center of the capital.
The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) is the organizer of this major political and media event.
Since his return to power, the American president has relentlessly attacked the press, verbally and in court, while the grip of his allies on the media landscape is expanding, such as the acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) by its competitor Paramount Skydance, controlled by Donald Trump's close associates, the Ellisons.
The billionaire, unlike all his predecessors since the 1920s, has always boycotted the evening as president.
This dinner, attended by hundreds of journalists and media executives along with their guests from the political and economic spheres, takes place every year at the end of April. It raises funds for scholarships and prizes.
