Trump instaure une "semaine de l'anti-communisme"
On Monday, Donald Trump issued a proclamation declaring the coming week in the United States to be "Anti-Communist Week," attacking his progressive opponents in the process.
These proclamations, through which American presidents highlight themes that are dear to them for a day or a week, have a primarily symbolic value.
Denouncing "one of the most destructive ideologies in history," the 79-year-old Republican writes, in this text released by the White House: "Today new voices are repeating old lies, disguising them under expressions such as 'social justice' or 'democratic socialism'," the movement claimed by Zohran Mamdani, newly elected mayor of New York.
"Their message remains the same: give up your freedoms, trust the power of the government, and trade the hope of ownership for the empty comfort of surveillance," Donald Trump added.
The US president has already called Zohran Mamdani a "communist", and declared in a speech, after the latter's election, that Americans faced a "choice between communism and common sense".
The future mayor of New York publicly challenged him on the night of his victory in the municipal election, saying: "Donald Trump, since I know you're watching, well then: +turn up the volume!+".
