Scène de la tuerie dans une école à Kahramanmaras, Turquie, le 15 avril 2026
A teenager opened fire Wednesday at a school in southern Turkey, killing eight students and one teacher and injuring thirteen others, according to local authorities."We mourn nine deaths (...) and thirteen injured. Six of them are currently in intensive care, three in critical condition," stated Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi during a press briefing from Kahramanmaras, where the shooting—an attack of unprecedented scale in Turkey—occurred. The governor of Kahramanmaras province, Mükerrem Ünlüer, had earlier reported four dead and twenty wounded."A student arrived at the school with weapons, presumably his father's, in his backpack. He entered two classrooms and opened fire randomly," detailed the governor. The attack came just one day after a similar incident at a high school approximately 200 kilometers to the east, which left sixteen injured. The targeted classrooms housed students around ten years old. The shooter, aged approximately 13 to 14 and the son of a former police officer, is deceased. His father, identified as a former police inspector, has been detained.Schools in the province will remain closed Thursday and Friday."Our hearts are bleeding. Our condolences to the nation," said the speaker of the Turkish parliament.AFP
