Deux mortes dans un incendie à cause d'une machine à laver
The causes of the fatal fire that devastated Visp in October last year are now known.
In October of last year, two people lost their lives in a fire in a residential building in Visp. The Valais cantonal police reported at the time that smoke had spread throughout the building and that firefighters found one person dead and another, severely intoxicated by smoke, who died shortly afterward in hospital.
The investigation conducted by the Valais Public Prosecutor's Office is now complete, and the causes of this tragedy are known. It all stemmed from a faulty washing machine, reports the "Nouvelliste," based on information from the "Walliser Bote."
It was the smoke released by this device that caused the tragedy, because although the flames started on the first floor, "the narrow stairwell and the open windows on the upper floors sucked the smoke from the fire upwards."
Thus, it was two women living on the 5th floor of the building who died that night.
The first victim was a 68-year-old Swiss woman. The second, who did not survive the severe poisoning, was 34 years old and a Romanian national.
