After more than two weeks of anguish and intensive searching, the Bordeaux prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday, January 29, the discovery of the body of Hatyce Halidi Selemani, known as Tyah. The 16-year-old, a student in Pessac, had been missing since her disappearance on January 12. Her body was found in Lormont, in the Bordeaux metropolitan area, by a passerby.

According to initial reports from the prosecutor's office, the young girl was found hanged. Her body will be transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bordeaux for an autopsy to determine the exact circumstances of her death.

Tyah's disappearance deeply affected her family and friends. On the day she vanished, the teenager left her high school, Pape Clément, in Pessac at midday to go home for lunch. Her brother, who saw her that day, said he found her very upset and in tears, mentioning a romantic disappointment. She was supposed to return to class in the afternoon but never came back to school. Alerted by the school, her mother quickly reported her missing.

Numerous calls for help

Very quickly, Tyah's family and friends launched appeals for help, multiplying messages on social media. The posts, accompanied in particular by a photo showing the young girl wearing a pink sweatshirt, were massively shared, sparking a vast wave of solidarity.

Faced with the lack of news, law enforcement took over. A public appeal for witnesses was issued on January 20th. Significant resources were then deployed: review of CCTV footage, sweeps of several areas of the Bordeaux metropolitan area with the support of firefighters, and searches along the Garonne River using drones and canine units.
