New Russian overnight attacks have left at least six people dead in Ukraine, local authorities said Sunday, while Kyiv struck oil facilities in a Black Sea port in the morning.

Despite calls from the United States for Russia to end the war and Western sanctions, Moscow continues its ground attacks on the front and has relaunched in recent weeks a targeted bombing campaign against the Ukrainian energy system.

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, it launched 79 drones and two ballistic missiles at Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, which claimed to have shot down 67 drones.

President Volodymyr Zelensky specified that five regions (Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Odessa) had been affected.

According to local authorities, four people were killed, including two children, in the Dnipropetrovsk region (east-central) and two others in the Odessa region (south). Around fifteen people were also injured.

The children killed were two boys aged 11 and 14, said Ukrainian human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.

A Russian attack on the Zaporizhzhia region (south) has left some 58,000 homes without electricity, Governor Ivan Fedorov also indicated.

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, during the past week, the Russian army attacked Ukraine with nearly 1,500 drones, 1,170 aerial bombs and more than 70 missiles.

He accused Moscow of wanting to target "mainly" the civilian population, while Moscow insists it is only targeting military targets.

Russian troops have been attacking Ukraine's electrical infrastructure every winter since 2022, forcing the country to restrict electricity supply and import energy.

Kyiv believes these attacks are aimed at exhausting the civilian population, a claim Moscow denies.

Attack targeting an oil terminal

In response to Russian bombings, Kyiv is conducting drone strikes in Russia, targeting in particular oil and gas infrastructure in an attempt to weaken the hydrocarbon revenue that finances the Kremlin's war effort.

A Ukrainian drone attack early Sunday on the Russian port of Tuapse on the Black Sea damaged two ships and the infrastructure of an oil terminal, local authorities said.

According to this source, the attack triggered fires which were brought under control by firefighters.

An anonymous source within the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) told AFP that five drone strikes had been recorded on the site.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 164 Ukrainian drones overnight over several regions of Russia.

Russian assault on Pokrovsk

Meanwhile, the Russian army, better supplied and better equipped, has been continuing its attacks on the front for months and is slowly gaining ground in some sectors, despite heavy losses.

In the Donetsk region (east), which the Kremlin seeks to conquer as a priority, it has greatly increased its pressure in recent days on the stronghold of Pokrovsk.

On Saturday, the Ukrainian army claimed that a "complex" operation involving special forces was underway to drive out Russian soldiers who had infiltrated Pokrovsk.

Military observers fear that the Pokrovsk-Myrnograd conurbation, which had 100,000 inhabitants before the start of the 2022 invasion, will soon be encircled and fall under Russian control.

Since 2023, Moscow has conquered several Ukrainian strongholds in the region (Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Vugledar) after long months of deadly fighting that reduced these cities to ruins.
