Un haut diplomate du Vatican condamne le «carnage» à Gaza
Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin condemned the "carnage" in Gaza on Monday, October 6, saying it was "unacceptable" to reduce the death toll to collateral damage. He was speaking to Vatican media ahead of the second anniversary of what he called an "inhumane and indefensible" October 7 Hamas attack in Israel, and said he was praying for the hostages still being held.
The war in Gaza “has had disastrous and inhumane consequences,” the cardinal added, saying he was struck by the daily deaths of “so many children whose only fault seems to be to have been born there.” “We risk becoming insensitive to this carnage!” warned Pietro Parolin in an interview published in Italian and English. “It is unacceptable and unjustifiable to reduce human beings to mere ‘collateral damage,’” he added. He also condemned those who have used the war to justify anti-Semitism, which he called a “cancer,” warning that “the perverse spiral of hatred can only lead to a spiral of no escape.” On the US peace plan, Pietro Parolin argued that “any plan that involves the Palestinian people in decisions about their future and helps end this massacre—by freeing hostages and ending the daily massacres of hundreds of people—must be welcomed and supported.” He also welcomed the street protests for Gaza around the world, saying that "this shows that we are not condemned to indifference."
