Onu : Macky Sall expose sa vision
Former Senegalese President Macky Sall has officially declared his candidacy for the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), with the support of the African Union.
In a programmatic document entitled "Refounding multilateralism for a better world", Macky Sall sets out a vision articulated around a more effective, more credible and more results-oriented UN.
Faced with a world he describes as being riddled with multiple crises — security, economic, climate and technological — the former head of state argues for a “revitalized” organization, capable of providing concrete collective responses.
Its approach rests on three pillars: forging an integrated vision of peace, security and development; renewing and revitalizing multilateralism; and strengthening the internal governance of the United Nations.
Macky Sall insists in particular on the need to streamline structures, avoid duplication between agencies, modernize working methods and guarantee more predictable funding.
He also calls for increased cooperation with regional organizations and international financial institutions to better prevent and manage crises.
Backed by the African Union, her candidacy aims to put Africa back at the heart of the debate on the future of multilateralism.
The process for appointing the Secretary-General remains subject to the recommendation of the Security Council, before validation by the General Assembly.
With this statement, Macky Sall positions himself as a defender of "pragmatic, disciplined and results-oriented" leadership for the UN of tomorrow.
