Une professeure australienne enceinte d’un garçon de 12 ans : l’école réagit face à cet abus
A 33-year-old teacher appeared in court in Mandurah, Australia, on Tuesday, January 27. She is accused of abusing a 12-year-old boy for more than a year.
Naomi Tekea Craig was eight months pregnant when she stopped abusing a 12-year-old boy. The music teacher, who is married and a mother, gave birth to her second child on January 8, and a DNA test reportedly confirmed that the teenager was the father.
The 33-year-old teacher, who appeared via video conference, pleaded guilty in a Mandurah, Australia court on Tuesday to 15 charges, 7News reported. She was teaching at an Anglican school when she began the relationship, which lasted more than a year.
"This strikes at the heart of most people. Particularly when it involves someone in a position of authority or responsible for looking after others, our children, and when it undermines the sanctity of schools," said Col Blanch, Western Australia's police chief, at the end of the hearing.
"The teacher was asked not to go to school."
At the time of her arrest, the teacher was on maternity leave. The school subsequently wrote to parents to confirm that a teacher had been charged. "The teacher has been asked not to come to school. Information available to the school indicates that there is no cause for concern for the other children enrolled at the school," the letter stated, among other things. The school clarified that the victim was not a student at the school.
Naomi Tekea Craig remains free on bail and will be sentenced on March 27. This time, she will have to appear in person at the hearing. In the meantime, aside from her newborn child, she is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with minors. This restriction also applies to her first child.
