États-Unis : Le coin d’un immeuble d’habitation s’effondre en plein New York, aucune victime recensée

An entire section of a 20-story residential building collapsed this Wednesday in New York (United States) after a gas explosion, but the incident miraculously caused no deaths or injuries.

A true miracle. This Wednesday morning, an apartment building in the Bronx, New York (United States), partially collapsed after an explosion... without causing any injuries, reports CBS News.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. in the twenty-story residential building. For reasons yet to be determined and confirmed, a massive explosion occurred, causing an entire corner of the building to collapse, scattering debris, air conditioning units, and hundreds of bricks onto the pavement.

No casualties reported

According to preliminary findings, the fire may have been caused by a gas explosion in the boiler room. "The city turns on the heating on October 1st," said a city councilor. "So someone was downstairs turning on the system, and that may have caused the accident."

The blast reportedly sent shock waves through a ventilation duct running the length of the building, causing an entire section to collapse, according to USA Today. In addition to the floor damage, a water pipe may have been damaged. A total of 38 apartments were cautiously evacuated, and 140 residents were relocated by city officials.

The mayor of New York City visited the site the same day. "We were very fortunate," said Eric Adams. "We had no lives lost and no injuries." A fortunate incident also celebrated by one official: "We avoided a major disaster." An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
