Two US Navy ships collided in the Caribbean on Wednesday, February 11, during a refueling operation at sea, resulting in two minor injuries, according to information reported by ABC News on Thursday.

The incident involved the guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun and the logistics support ship USNS Supply. The two vessels were sailing alongside each other to transfer fuel and equipment when the collision occurred. U.S. Southern Command reported that the two injured service members are in stable condition. The ships were able to continue their voyage, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The last collision dates back to 2025

The destroyer had left its home port of Norfolk, Virginia, on February 6, to join a reinforced naval deployment in the region. According to information cited by ABC News, eleven American ships are currently operating in the Caribbean, including the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.

Collisions involving US Navy vessels remain rare. The last one occurred in February 2025, when the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman struck a merchant ship off Port Said, Egypt. No injuries were reported, but the damage required repairs. An assessment of the damage is underway to determine the future of the deployment.
