The dismissal comes after a report found that US strikes in Iran only set Tehran's nuclear program back by several years, while Donald Trump insists they completely destroyed the targeted sites.
The axe has fallen. The head of US military intelligence and two other senior officials of the agency have been dismissed from their positions, it was announced on Friday, August 22, after the publication of a report that reportedly greatly displeased the American president.
The dismissal of Lieutenant General Jeffrey Kruse, who had held the post since early 2024, comes shortly after his office said that the June US strikes on Iran had set Tehran's nuclear program back by several years.
This report, which has been widely reported in the press, differs significantly from the claims of Donald Trump , who insists that the attacks in question completely destroyed the targeted nuclear sites.
Jeffrey Kruse "will no longer serve as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA)," a senior military official said Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity. He did not provide a reason for the dismissal.
Another official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said two other senior officials, Vice Adm. Nancy Lacore, chief of the Navy Reserve, and Rear Adm. Milton Sands, were also leaving their posts.
Since returning to power, Donald Trump has presided over the dismissal of multiple senior Pentagon officials, starting with the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Brown, who was dismissed in February without explanation.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth , a Trump loyalist, defends the president's right to choose the military's leadership as he sees fit, but Democratic lawmakers have expressed concern about the military's potential politicization.
Pete Hegseth led the counterattack after the military intelligence report on the Iran strikes was circulated in the press. He said the document "was leaked because someone wants to try to... make it look like these historic strikes were not a success."
Donald Trump, whom his former chief of staff had labeled a "wannabe dictator," has made loyalty the primary recruiting criterion for his second term. He also applies this logic to the historically neutral military, for which he has an undisguised fascination.
For example, the American president organized a rare military parade in Washington on June 14 , the date which marked 250 years since the creation of the American army, and which also happens to be his birthday.
He deployed the National Guard, a reserve force, to Los Angeles and then to Washington .
Several senior civilian officials have also been dismissed by the 79-year-old billionaire. Donald Trump, for example, recently fired the director of the main employment statistics agency after the publication of inaccurate figures.

Le problème, c’est que Trump, c’est un peu comme le McDo des idées : ça attire, ça nourrit sur le coup, mais ça détruit ton système digestif politique à long terme. Il est la preuve vivante que le QI ne suit pas la bourse : tu peux être milliardaire et toujours confondre le climat avec la météo.

Il a réussi le tour de force de transformer la Maison Blanche en AirBnB pour égos surdimensionnés. On ne devrait pas dire « Make America Great Again », mais « Make America Facepalm Forever ».
Donald Trump c’est la preuve vivante que l’évolution n’est pas une ligne droite… c’est un rond-point. Tu regardes sa tête, tu te dis : « Voilà à quoi ressemble un Big Mac quand il essaye de penser. »

Non, y'a d'autres possibilités ?
D'abord, l'Iran ne vise pas l'arme nucleaire, donc l'on ne voit pas en quoi, il serait retardé!
Ses stocks enrichis sont à l'abri. Et vouloir le priver de recherches et autres activités scientifiques, energetiques, etc, sera sans doute vain.
