USA : Les ressortissants de ces pays africains vont verser une caution de 5 à 10 000 dollars pour avoir le visa

This isn't necessarily good news for these seven African countries. The U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Homeland Security, has implemented a visa bond pilot program that includes nationals of Mali, Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe, Tanzania, Gambia, Malawi, and Zambia.

The consular officer will take into account the visa applicant's situation when setting the deposit.

Effective October 23, 2025, Malians eligible for a B-1/B-2 business or tourist visa will be required to post a $5,000 or $10,000 security deposit before visa issuance. The consular officer will consider the visa applicant's circumstances at the time of the interview.

The latter will also have to submit a Department of Homeland Security Form I-352 agreeing to the terms of the bond, and pay the bond via the Treasury Department's Pay.gov online payment platform.

Mauritanian, Santomean and Tanzanian nationals will follow the same procedure from October 23.

As for Gambians, they have been hit by this new situation since Saturday, October 11, 2025.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Mali, "this pilot project (visa bond) reinforces the U.S. government's commitment to protecting its borders and ensuring the security of the United States."

Countries are included in the project based on high overstay rates, gaps in screening procedures and background checks, among other factors. The deposit will be fully refunded if the applicant complies with all the conditions of their nonimmigrant visa.
