In Spain, Liliana, Iker Casillas's domestic worker, was arrested this week by police for stealing five luxury watches belonging to the Real Madrid legend. Officers also arrested her alleged accomplice. This man, named Carlos, happens to be Liliana's husband and the doorman of the building where the former Real Madrid goalkeeper lives.
Joaquin Prat, the host of the show "El tiempo justo" on Telecinco, managed to get him an interview.
"My wife was completely unaware of what had happened."
The least we can say is that he wanted to take full responsibility for the crime. "I admit it, I say it. I am the only one responsible. My wife was completely unaware of what had happened," Carlos claimed. He says he stole Casillas' "jewels" to pay off his debts.
"I sold the watches to a brokerage firm for 26,000 euros, and I used that money to pay off my accumulated debts and loans. Everything piled up, credit cards, loans, and I had no way out," he explained, visibly upset.
"She doesn't understand anything about watches. She thought they were the same."
But how did he steal the luxury watches? According to him, he asked his wife to bring them to him "just to see them," and he exchanged them "for counterfeits, without Liliana noticing."
"She doesn't understand anything about watches. She thought they were the same ," Carlos said. The couple has since been fired. He faces 18 months in prison.
