The U.S. capital's prosecutor filed a lawsuit Friday against Donald Trump's decision to place law enforcement in the city under federal control and deploy the National Guard there.

The conflict between Donald Trump and the United States capital is before the courts. On Monday, August 11, the American president announced that law enforcement in Washington would be under the control of his administration and that he would deploy National Guard troops.

The Republican leader justified the controversial decisions by citing an alleged rise in crime in the city, an allegation that contradicts official statistics.

An affront to residents, according to the Washington prosecutor

That same evening, Democratic officials claimed that Donald Trump's actions were tainted by illegality. And Brian Schwalb, the Washington attorney general, agreed.

This Friday, he filed a lawsuit, arguing that the law governing the capital "does not authorize this usurpation of the city's authority over its own government."

"The actions taken by the Trump administration are blatantly illegal," he later declared on the social network X. "It is an affront to the dignity and independence of the 700,000 Americans" living in Washington, he added.

A total of 800 National Guardsmen, dedicated to "providing a visible presence in important public places as a deterrent," have been deployed, the US Defense Department said Thursday.

Yes, right on DC! This is called leadership.
