Yusuf, 5 ans, mort à l’hôpital : sa famille, ignorée aux urgences, avait supplié pour avoir des antibiotiques

The death of five-year-old Yusuf Mahmud Nazir at Sheffield Children's Hospital shocked Britain. In November 2022, the little boy was sent home after an initial stay at Rotherham Hospital. Three years later, the family met with Health Secretary Wes Streeting in London to request the adoption of a "Yusuf's Law."

The family wants national guidelines to require healthcare staff to heed parents' intuition when they feel "something very serious is happening" to their child. The report, published in July 2025, concludes that "parental concerns, particularly the mother's instinct that her child was ill, were not repeatedly addressed by any service."

Yusuf, who has asthma, was taken to a general practitioner on November 15, 2022, for a sore throat. He was seen in the emergency department at Rotherham Hospital after a six-hour wait, where he was sent home. According to Yusuf's uncle, Zaheer Ahmed, the family had to plead to get antibiotics.

"No beds and not enough doctors"

Two days later, his GP prescribed more antibiotics for a possible lung infection, but his increasingly worried family insisted he be taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital on November 21. Initially, they were told that an ambulance "wasn't a taxi." Later, the family said they were informed that there were "no beds and not enough doctors" in the Rotherham emergency department, and that Yusuf would have had to receive intravenous antibiotics.

Admitted to intensive care, Yusuf developed multiple organ failure and suffered several cardiac arrests, from which he did not recover. A full investigation into Yusuf's death is scheduled to begin on April 13 of next year.

l Get paid over $110 per hour working from home. l never thought I'd be able to do it but my buddy makes over $21269 a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The possibility with this is endless....
