18 «otages» du Maroc : la surprenante décision des fans des Lions
The eighteen Senegalese supporters sentenced by a Moroccan court to prison terms ranging from three months to one year for their involvement in the incidents during the final of the last Africa Cup of Nations have decided not to appeal. Their lawyer, Patrice Kabou, confirmed this information, as reported by Record. He stated that his clients made this decision because they "consider this trial not to be theirs, as their rights have not been respected."
Mr. Kabou explained: “They emphasize that they only understood the charges against them at the hearing on February 12, following the Wolof translations provided by the Senegalese vice-consul. The court has not had a Wolof translator available from the beginning. Before the investigators, they never had access to a lawyer or an interpreter in their native language, Wolof; before the King's prosecutor, they never had access to an interpreter in their native language, Wolof; they were never able to meet with their lawyers to prepare their defense, solely due to the King's prosecutor's actions.”
Under these circumstances, the lawyer reports, the 18 Lions fans believe "that the judge's decision cannot concern them in any way. They consider themselves hostages awaiting their release."
