18 «otages» sénégalais du Maroc : Ibrahima Barry, la double peine
Sentenced to prison terms ranging from three months to one year, the 18 Senegalese involved in the incidents during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final have decided not to appeal. And for good reason: they do not recognize the court's verdict, believing they did not receive a fair trial. They say they now consider themselves hostages of Morocco, awaiting their release.
Among them, Ibrahima Barry's situation stands out. He received a one-year prison sentence. Unlike most of the fans convicted by the Moroccan courts, he was already living in the Kingdom before the Africa Cup of Nations. According to Libération, which recounts his story in its Monday edition, Barry received a double punishment. In addition to the prison sentence, he lost his job at a call center called Konecta. "Even before the verdict, the company fired him without justification," the newspaper reports.
