Accusé de viol : Le plombier N. Niang acquitté après 5 ans de détention
Plumber N. Niang was acquitted on Tuesday by the criminal chamber of the Thiès High Court. He had been prosecuted for rape, pedophilia, and abduction of a minor following accusations by N. Diouf, a 16-year-old girl. These events date back to 2021.
After a long period of pre-trial detention, N. Niang was tried on January 13, 2026.
In court, the victim stated that the defendant had raped her three times.
The accused categorically denied the facts, speaking of "baseless accusations", reaffirming that he considered the victim as his own child, given the deep friendship that bound him to her deceased father.
The public prosecutor had determined that no material evidence allowed him to confirm the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He had therefore requested his acquittal based on reasonable doubt.
